I was fortunate last Tuesday to have been a participant in an Adopt a Pantry program provided by the Second Harvest Food Bank and sponsored by my company’s Happyness is a Choice program. It was such a great feeling to be able to provide food to people of all walks of life who needed it. The main take away that I got was that everyone appreciated what we could give them. They truly accepted our food offering and everyone thanked us as they received their items. Towards the end of the allotted time slot, two women came a little late. We had to reopen up the food truck for them. I took one of the women, who was a little older, around to each station to ensure that she received all the food items. We packed her bags full of potatoes, apples, celery and even popcorn. She explained to me that she was going to make a potato soup and excited about that prospect. I helped bring her full bags to her car so that she could put them in the trunk. She thanked me again and asked who we were, what group we were representing. I told her that we were employees of a company in which 1% of our entire revenue goes towards a program called Happyness is a Choice. From the program the employees get to decide where the money goes. I informed her that as employees we decided that we wanted to Adopt a Pantry and so we did. She was ecstatic and showed her sincere appreciation with giving me a great big warm hug. Her smile and hug reminded me how great it is to help the community and do what you can for others.
